Matt Scherer has been with Visionary Insurance Advocates LLC since its inception. Licensed in the state of South Carolina in the health and life markets, he has a tremendous working knowledge of Medicare and individual health facets.

Matt, the company’s president, is appointed through all the major carriers in the Medicare Advantage and supplement arena and is an expert in the field. A native of Seattle, Matt has a bachelor’s of science degree from the NEAG School of Education at the University of Connecticut with a focus in the Kinesiology department in management and administration. During his time there, he was an Academic All-American, awarded the Senior Award for Excellence and served as a three-year captain on the men’s varsity ice hockey team.  He was inducted into the South Carolina Stingrays Hall of Fame in 2013.

After college, Matt played hockey professionally for the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL leading the team to win the league championship in 2009.  He was awarded the Jerry Zucker Community Service Award for his service and dedication to the Lowcountry, and continues to serve as a member of Hockey Players 4 Kids, an international charity to help disadvantaged youth. He remains very active in the community and his church, St. Andrews Presbyterian in West Ashley.  Matt, his wife Lauren and their daughter are happy to call Charleston their home.

• Certified annually by the Federal Health Insurance Marketplace as a Broker for the Individual Marketplace and the SHOP Marketplace.
• Certified annually by America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) as a broker for Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans.
